At Ainsworth Jewellers, we believe every piece of jewellery has a story and those stories should begin long before a piece is worn. That’s why we’re delighted to be working in partnership with our preferred jewellery photographer, Anna McMullan, whose creative vision is helping us showcase our collections in a completely new way.
A creative partnership built on shared values
When our Director, Helen Dimmick, first met Anna during a photoshoot, the connection was immediate.
Helen said:
“It was love at first sight! Anna is incredibly creative, but what really stood out was the time she took to understand the gemstones, their properties, their symbolism and the stories behind them. We knew she was someone who shared our passion for authenticity and we are over the moon to be working with her.”
That meeting marked the beginning of a collaboration built on friendship, trust and a shared ambition to present jewellery in a way that feels honest, inspiring and meaningful and that really stands out for customers.
As an independent, fifth-generation jeweller, authenticity is at the heart of everything we do. We don’t believe in computer-generated or rendered images on our website that can create unrealistic expectations. Instead, we want customers to see our jewellery exactly as it is; beautifully crafted, naturally photographed and honestly presented.
For us, trust is everything.
Telling the story behind every gemstone
Anna established her photography business more than 20 years ago after leaving a successful career in textile design to pursue a new creative path.
Today, she brings that artistic eye to every Ainsworth Jewellers collection, creating lifestyle imagery that goes far beyond traditional product photography.
Anna added:
“My brief is very much a collaboration of creative minds. Together we’re producing lifestyle and storytelling images that fit perfectly with the ethos of Ainsworth Jewellers. They are real, accessible, approachable and centred around a genuine love of beautiful jewellery.
“The inspiration isn’t simply to photograph a piece of jewellery. It’s to tell the story behind each gemstone, allowing customers to connect with its meaning, history and symbolism. If someone becomes invested in the story behind a piece, it naturally becomes even more special.”
Rather than placing jewellery against plain or unrelated backgrounds, Anna carefully selects props, textures and settings that reflect the unique personality of each gemstone.
The result is imagery that encourages people to pause, explore and discover something new.
Every gemstone has its own story
One of Anna’s favourite collections is the series celebrating the birthstones for each month of the year. Each image has been carefully styled to reflect the heritage and symbolism of the gemstone and month it represents.
For example:
- Amethyst is traditionally believed to ward off drunkenness, which inspired its elegant placement alongside a rich purple wine glass.
- Aquamarine, whose name comes from the Latin for ‘water of the sea’, is beautifully paired with delicate seashells to evoke the ocean.
- Diamond is photographed alongside a Kimberlite rock sourced from the Cullinan Diamond Mine and given to Phil, highlighting the remarkable journey from the earth to the finished piece of jewellery.
- Opal, the birthstone for October and associated with the zodiac sign Libra, is styled with vintage weighing scales, reflecting the symbol of balance.
Anna says one of her personal favourites is the aquamarine collection. “I love the turquoise-blue gemstones displayed among the seashells. The colours and textures complement each other perfectly and really bring the gemstone’s origins to life.”
For Helen, every image offers an opportunity to educate as well as inspire. “We want customers to understand the characteristics, symbolism and stories behind every gemstone and every collection. Jewellery becomes so much more meaningful when you know the story you’re wearing.”
Investing in excellence
To help bring each gemstone and piece of jewellery to life. Ainsworth’s has also purchased specialist jewellery photography equipment to ensure every detail is captured with exceptional clarity, while Anna has undertaken further specialist jewellery photography training to refine her already impressive expertise.
Together, these investments allow every diamond, coloured gemstone and handcrafted setting to be presented with stunning accuracy while remaining true to life.
More than photography
Ultimately, this partnership is about much more than creating beautiful images.
It’s about celebrating craftsmanship, preserving authenticity and helping customers form a genuine emotional connection with every piece of jewellery.
By combining creative storytelling with honest photography, Ainsworth Jewellers hopes every customer can discover not only a piece they love, but also the fascinating story that makes it uniquely special.
